The German market for audit, tax, and advisory increased by 8.8 per cent to 19.8 billion euros in the 2023 financial year thanks to strong growth. The market leaders PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), KPMG and Deloitte – the so-called Big Four – grew by an average of 17.0 per cent. The 25 leading audit firms in Germany in terms of domestic revenue grew by an average of 14.1 per cent in the 2023 financial year (previous year 2022: +10.9 %), bringing their cumulative domestic revenue to EUR 13.0 billion. The Big Four firms have a combined turnover of 10.2 billion euros, which corresponds to a market share of 51.5 per cent.
The so-called Next Six can also look back on a successful 2023 financial year with an average increase of 15.6 per cent. This group includes law firms with a revenue of more than 100 million euros each and exclusive membership of a global network. The German auditing and tax consulting market is becoming increasingly dynamic, and rarely before have there been so many mergers and network changes as in the past year.

Criteria for inclusion in this Lünendonk List:
More than 60 per cent of company revenue generated from auditing, tax consulting (excluding tax filing and accounting), corporate finance and/or legal consulting, of which at least 15 per cent generated from audit (pure auditing of annual accounts, excluding consulting). Only independently accounting firms (no network firms or alliances).
