The top 20 industrial services companies in Germany recorded a 9.1 per cent decline in sales during 2020. The coronavirus pandemic has thus affected the industrial services market more than the other B2B markets monitored by Lünendonk, with the exception of temporary work (top 25: -16.4 %). Due to infection control measures, access to plant premises was severely restricted for many external service providers, with projects cancelled or postponed. For 2021, the companies surveyed by Lünendonk expect pent-up demand and growth of between 8.7 and 14.0 per cent.
Of the top 20 companies in the market, only five managed to generate increased sales last year: InfraServ Gendorf Technik and InfraServ Wiesbaden Technik along with the Griesemann Group, Robur and the S.I.S. Group. Munich-based Robur Group also continued its inorganic growth in 2020. The S.I.S. Group, headquartered in Karlsfeld, grew by 48.9 per cent, partly due to the integration of a number of corporate acquisitions. Market leader Bilfinger achieved above-average performance in Germany, contracting 3.1 per cent to 933.0 million euros in current sales. Wisag Industrieservice, based in Frankfurt am Main, has had its long-standing growth curve interrupted by the unusual circumstances of 2020. Current sales are down to 845 million euros (-1.9 %; 2019: €861.0 m). Remondis Maintenance & Service, operating under the Buchen and Xervon brands, follows in third place.
